The QEM/MERA Broadening Participation of MSIs in Life STEM (BP-MSI Life STEM) initiative engages minority-serving institutions (MSIs) that are committed to developing and sharing effective models of intervention focused on broadening participation of underrepresented minority students in STEM fields, particularly in life science and bioscience.  The overall objective of this initiative is to increase the number of competitive grant proposals from MSIs to the NSF Life STEM Programs. Participants will:

  • Hear from national experts on core themes related to cutting-edge research and intervention models to advance STEM broadening participation

  •  Learn from PIs from minority serving institutions with successful track records in obtaining NSF funding

  • Build capacity to strengthen the research focus of broadening STEM participation interventions

  • Equip SRO/SPO administrators with tools, information and resources to maintain a competitive edge

  •  Leverage potential partnerships with other institutions and potential collaborators

  • Stay current in understanding the latest developments surrounding NSF’s strategic direction and vision

  • Share best practices, strategies and interventions that achieve success in broadening STEM participation

  • Interact with NSF program officers to learn more about funding opportunities and developing a competitive edge
